80% HP or 80% Time remaining Activates shield

Strategy

The strategy I used for this solo run is using Poliwrath.
This is one of the rare times for this Pokémon to shine, so why not use this opportunity.
Ideally you want to have at least Attack and Special Defense bottle capped. (and EVs in Attack and Special Defense)

For mine, I had the above stats bottled and additionally I bred an Adamant nature on my Poliwrath.

Below is my setup for Poliwrath specifically for this fight.

Poliwrath’s moves, stats and item
Poliwrath

As you’ll see later we’ll need 3 of these moves “Amnesia”,"Belly Drum" and “Drain Punch”,
however the Metronome is quite necessary as we’ll be spamming Drain Punch. Do not that your 4th move should be a physical damage one, as you will most likely run out of Drain Punch PP.
because of this it is almost mandatory to PP Max your Drain Punch.

Metronome makes it so Drain Punch gets stronger every turn,
which will in turn increase our healing every turn as well (Drain Punch offers a leech heal)

Note: It is important to note this fight is probably one of the more RNG ones, mainly because of your teammates and their interaction with Empoleon’s hidden ability “Competitive”.

I strongly advice to dodge fights where either of the below is an ally: (as soon as Empoleon even hits a single Competitive boost (x2 Special attack) the fight becomes near-impossible) For this reason ALWAYS dodge the intimidate Pokémon, as they will have you start the fight on the backfoot,
and on top of that they make it worse each time they die. Most of the others have a chance to lower Empoleon’s stats, so if you want to be 100% safe avoid them but if you’re feeling lucky, you could try.

Arcanine (Intimidate) Staraptor (Intimidate)
Tauros (Intimidate) Drifblim
Umbreon Corviknight
Sylveon Garganacl
Mudsdale Weavile
Haxorus

So let’s get to the fight itself then:

I’ll be guiding you through every turn as below.

TURN 1

Use Amnesia on turn one

Poliwrath uses Amnesia

TURN 2

Use Drain Punch on turn two

Poliwrath uses Drain Punch

TURN 3

Use the Belly Drum cheer on turn three

Poliwrath uses Belly Drum

TURN 4 - Stats reset

Use Drain Punch on turn four until Empoleon resets all player stats and abilities.
This is where Metronome’s boost shines, repeating the same move every turn.

Stats and abilities reset

Whenever Empoleon resets your stats and abilities it’s best to use Amnesia again, this will ensure you never die, which in turn makes sure you won’t have to rebuff and lose a lot of time.

When Empoleon uses his first reset, I usually Terastalize as well, giving me that extra defensive benefit.
